AI for dairy farmers

Mastitis is an inflammatory disease, and it is the most frequently occurring infection in dairy farms. The disease has significant negative impacts on profitability of the business, and heavily weighs on animal welfare. AI can help in the early identification, classification, prediction, and prevention of this disease.

We aim to create, implement, and validate an ELSA-compliant, data-driven, farmer-in-the-loop Decision-Support System (DSS). This will help to take measures effectively, and responsibly in early stages of the disease.

In this case, the following ELSA challenges appear, among others:

  • Safeguarding animal welfare
  • Ownership of information and knowledge
  • The explainability of AI-based decisions to all stakeholders involved
